University Union is thrilled to announce Block Party 2017, featuring hip-hop artist Travis Scott, electronic musician ZHU, and music duo AlunaGeorge. The concert takes place on Friday, April 28th, 2017 in the Carrier Dome, with doors opening at 6:30 pm.
Travis Scott is a hip-hop artist from Houston, Texas. He signed with Epic Records in 2012. After his signing, he helped produce GOOD Music’s debut compilation album Cruel Summer . With the help of Kanye West, he released his debut solo mixtape Owl Pharaoh in 2013. The same year, he made the XXL Freshman Class of 2013 cover. In 2014, he released his second mixtape, Days Before Rodeo , before releasing his debut album Rodeo in 2015. Scott’s sophomore album, Birds In The Trap Sing McKnight, released in 2016, debuted at the number one spot on the Billboard 200, and sat at the number 1 spot on Apple for 9 weeks. The album garnered more than 501 million streams on Apple and more than 335 million on Spotify.
After quietly releasing the smash hit, “Faded,” ZHU came into the spotlight after he earned the first Grammy nomination by an anonymous artist for Best Dance Track. ZHU released his solo debut EP, THE NIGHTDAY , in 2014. He then recruited a diverse group of musicians for the 2015 Genesis Series EP. ZHU played the closing set of the Sahara tent at Coachella in 2016, and earned comparisons to Daft Punk. GENERATIONWHY was released in July 2016 on Columbia Records, featuring singles “In The Morning” and “Generationwhy.” This year, ZHU has performed at the BUKU Music + Art Project and the Ultra Music Festival, where he drew a huge crowd to the festivals’ Live Stage.
AlunaGeorge is an English duo from London, formed by vocalist and songwriter Aluna Francis and producer and instrumentalist George Reid. The duo broke out when they released their single “You Know You Like It” in 2012. The following year, they released their debut album Body Music , and collaborated with Disclosure on “White Noise.” In 2016, AlunaGeorge released their second album, I Remember , with standout hits such as “Not About Love” and “I’m In Control.” They were featured Kaytranada’s “TOGETHER,” as well as Flume’s “Innocence.”
There will be a ticket pre-sale for full-time SU/ESF students starting Monday, April 10th at 12pm until Wednesday April 12th at 11:45 pm. SU/ESF ID required for pre-sale purchase, with a max 2 tickets per ID. Public on-sale will begin Thursday, April 13th at 12 PM. The student price is $25 for general admission floor access, and $20 for first, second, and third level general admission. The general public price is $40. All tickets will be sold online via Ticketmaster. To purchase pre-sale tickets, click “Got an Offer Code?” and enter the 9-digit student ID number. All student tickets must be picked up at the Carrier Dome. Tickets will be available at Gate N from April 20th - 21st from 10am - 6pm and outside Gate B from April 24th - 28th from 8:30am - 4:30 pm.
