It’s 2016, and we’re paying attention to Canada more than ever. Drake started the movement, but it certainly doesn’t end there. There are a lot of artists on the rise reppin’ the 6ix and truth be told, they’re all extraordinarily talented. However, there is one specific artist we refuse to sleep on; his name is JAHKOY, and he’s straight out of Toronto.
In the fall of 2013, JAHKOY dropped Dying to Live Forever with a sound that propelled our curiosity in his craft. JAHKOY’s undeniable execution of blending R&B and electronic house separates him from the rest. Last year in 2015, we all knew the voices of PARTYNEXTDOOR, Tory Lanez, and The Weeknd, but JAHKOY was also in the rotation of hits. When “Still In Love” and “Hold Your Hand” surfaced, as expected, he was picked up. He was played by Zane, Elton John, Pharell, and Drake’s Beats 1 radio stations, circulating his music across the entire country. From that point, his popularity only goes up.
As a singer, songwriter, and producer, JAHKOY is raved about in more than a few prominent music outlets such as Pitchfork, The Fader, NYLON, and Complex. Billboard recently named him as an “Artist to Watch” and in the bigger playing field of Los Angeles, his self-claimed “bi-polar” sound was welcomed and highly regarded to all listeners. Deemed as No I.D.’s protégé, JAHKOY has recently signed to Def Jam. He hit the beginning of 2016 hard by dropping his latest single “Odd Future”, teaming up with production guru Wondagurl and Nova for a sensational sound. Musically and lyrically, he delivers. From Toronto to Los Angeles, JAHKOY is making his way into all of our earbuds. Check out “Odd Future” below and after, let his Soundcloud take you on a ride. Trust us, it’s worth it.
