University Union is back this week with another critically acclaimed film. Don’t miss the opportunity to see Bridge of Spies directed by the one and only Stephen Spielberg. Spielberg has yet to disappoint and Bridge of Spies certainly does not fall short of this high expectation. It was recently nominated for six Oscars *gasps*. Alongside one of the best directors in the business, we have Tom Hanks who flawlessly plays James Donovan, a New York lawyer.
This drama depicts high stake international negotiations during the Cold War. The Soviet Union captures a U.S pilot, Francis Gary Powers after shooting down his U-2 spy plane. He is sentenced to ten years in prison and Powers’ only hope is New York Lawyer James Donavan. Donavan is recruited by the CIA to negotiate his release. The U.S hopes a prisoner exchange for Rudolf Abel, the convicted Russian spy who Donovan defended in court, will help to free the young American pilot. If you are as committed as I am to watching all of the Academy’s favorite films before the Oscars this February, I definitely suggest heading down to HBC-Gifford Auditorium @8pm February 5th through the 7th.
