Monday night at 8:00 PM EST, University Union announced the lineup for this semester’s Bandersnatch Concert Series. The show will be headlined by European producer/performer Mura Masa, with supporting performances by Rhode Island rapper Khary and the talented SU student producer Roseville.
While the genres represented by this lineup may be diverse, these artists have one thing in common: they’ve each had a very successful 2017. Mura Masa’s rise to his star status seemed to happen overnight with the late-2016 release of his smash hit, “Love$ick,” featuring A$AP Rocky. The track has received over 110 million plays on Spotify, and is the lead single off of his eclectic self-titled album, released this past Summer. Boasting key artist features such as Desiigner and Charli XCX and hits such as “Firefly” and “What If I Go?,” Mura Masa has received positive attention from outlets such as Pitchfork, Clash Music, and The New York Times.
Rising artist Khary has been on the radar for over a year now, receiving praise and attention from Pigeons and Planes, Complex, and The FADER since the release of his 2016 project Intern Aquarium. This year, the artist furthered his reputation as a talented lyricist and dedicated creative through the collab EP Tidal Graves with producer Lege Kale. The young rapper played several shows this year, and has hinted at the release of new music coming soon.
While Roseville may be a student at SU, his music has made noise in markets far beyond campus. The Chicago native has spent his music career carving out his own sound in the electronic space, and he has seen significant results: hundreds of thousands of plays, respect from producing peers, and support from artists such as Louis the Child, Win and Woo, and Whethan.
As each of these artists look to close out a busy 2017, it seems like now is the optimal time for them to take over the SU campus. The show will take place on November 11th, 2017, in Goldstein Auditorium, with doors opening at 7:15 PM. Tickets are $5 for SU/ESF students at the Schine Box Office or $10 online at http://boxoffice.syr.edu, and $10 for faculty/public the Schine Box Office and at http://boxoffice.syr.edu.
