Colin Kaepernick’s Book Deal

Colin Kaepernick is most known for his original protest—remaining kneeled during the national anthem. But after Kaepernick’s protest against police brutality prompted an adverse reaction from people across the country, the San Francisco quarterback opted out of his 49ers contract, consequently, being left without a team for the 2017 NFL season. Kaepernick hasn’t been waiting around, though. This past Tuesday, ProFootballTalk announced that the former 49er has signed a $1 million book deal with the publisher Random House. Specific details about the format of the book or the content of the book itself have not been disclosed.

Kanye’s Calabasas Zine

zine (noun; \’zēn\): “a noncommercial often homemade or online publication usually devoted to specialized and often unconventional subject matter.”

Just recently, Kanye West sent fresh, new zine booklets to all the people who pre-ordered products from his second Calabasas collection, which included the new renowned Yeezy Wave Runner 700 trainer. The zine that was fully shot by Jackie Nickerson features images that scream Southern California and Calabasas: old-fashioned cars, deserted highways, and empty pale yellow hills. In addition to the scenery, the images include products from Kanye’s collection, including hoodies, shorts, joggers, and long-sleeve graphic tees. See images from the zine below, and view the full zine on Dazed here.

Issa Rae for HBO

After completing a prosperous second season of Insecure, Issa Rae appears to be working on a drama for HBO. The new drama will be set in the ‘90s and will feature a black couple—Jackson and Sheryl—and their family. While Sheryl works as a real estate agent, Jackson works as “a conflicted LAPD anti-gang task force recruit.” Working along with author Angela Flournoy, Rae is serving as an executive producer on the project. In a statement to Deadline, Rae expressed her enthusiasm to be working with Flournoy: “I’m so thrilled to be working with Angela. I was a huge fan of The Turner House and we feel so lucky to bring her beautiful storytelling to HBO.” The title and release date of the series is still unknown.

Maybe you’ve known about BROCKHAMPTON for a while, or maybe you know about them from our recent “Artists to Look Out For” blog. Regardless, the nontraditional boy-band has just announced two big things. Just last week, all members of the group shared the cover art for their fourth project, Saturation III, on all social media sites. Though it has only been two months since BROCKHAMPTON released their second installment in the saturation series, Kevin Abstract—now going by his real name Ian Simpson—announced that the third part of the series would be released in December. However, new developments from the collective didn’t stop there. On Tuesday, BROCKHAMPTON announced the Love Your Parents tour, with dates starting in mid-January. Watch their tour announce video below. Also, get to know more about the group on our “Artists to Look Out For” piece here.
