Anne-Marie has decided to “Speak Her Mind,” and we should all be listening.

What do four Shotokan Karate medals, platinum blonde hair and a Gold certified debut album all have in common? They all belong to British pop sensation Anne-Marie.

Anne-Marie’s journey into the pop music world was not a typical one. Growing up, she mainly performed in musical theater, making her West End debut at the age of six in Les Miserables. She began practicing karate at nine years old and won medals in various national competitions.

Pop music did not come into her life until towards the end of college when she began singing on sample tracks. Her big break came with her feature on Clean Bandit’s “Rockabye,” which spent more than nine weeks at number one. Her highly anticipated debut album “Speak Your Mind” was released on April 27, 2018, featuring songs such as “2002,” “Alarm” and her smash collaboration with DJ Marshmello “FRIENDS.”

Anne-Marie first met fellow British singer Ed Sheeran almost ten years ago, and the two have formed a close friendship. Sheeran co-wrote her hit single “2002,” and their acoustic duet of the song has over 27 million views on YouTube. Anne-Marie is currently on tour with Sheeran as his opening act on his 2018 North American Stadium Tour.

Reflective in her choice of title of her debut album, speaking your mind is something that Anne-Marie has never been afraid to do. Anne-Marie has recently opened up about her struggles with anxiety and body-image. Something as simple as walking into a room can be extremely stressful; her fear of being instantly disliked is so severe that she needs someone else to enter the room before her. Body-image issues affected her youth, but she has since begun a journey to self-acceptance. Anne-Marie is extremely passionate about raising mental health awareness, and is even slated to play at the inaugural Music 4 Mental Health benefit concert at the London Roundhouse.

Anne-Marie has brought a breath of fresh air into the pop music industry with her honest, empowering and relatable lyrics paired with upbeat and catchy beats. Her message-driven songwriting combined with her passion for performing are a perfect pop star combination. And luckily you don’t have to go back to 2002 to see her live because she’s coming to Juice Jam! Make sure to grab your tickets and catch her set!
